What is Hypertext

The term was coined by Ted Nelson around 1965

Ted Nelson originally invented the word “hypertext” for “non-sequential writing”. His long-standing interest in all things related to HT became the Xanadu project. T

Most people will jump on the answer of Tim Berners Lee as the creator of HTML in the 1980s, but the history of “hypertext” was an evolution over many years.

The concept of hypertext was first described by Vannevar Bush in 1945 in an article in Atlantic Monthly article “As We May Think.” https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/1945/07/as-we-may-think/303881/

Since this question asks about “hypertext” is is fair to mention that Ted Nelson originally invented the word “hypertext” in the 1960s.

I also would mention that Doug Engelbart of “Mother of all demos” fame illustrated hypertext in his “oNLine System” (NLS) in the 1960s.
