I threw this question out there because I have seen a few articles lately where people are using Detroit for an analogy of an industrial wasteland and the stereotypes really bother me.
Every year I go on a road trip. The last two years I have included Detroit as one of my stops. When I tell people I enjoyed the area people laugh. As a Geek History Enthusiast I really enjoyed all the people I met, and learned a lot about the area. Thanks for your in depth answer!
