Social media and the art of self promotion

As I travel the circuits of cyberspace I am always in search of new ways to promote the answers to life, the universe, and everything. I am no so bold as to believe I have all the answers, but as I share the information I have collected so far, I search out like minded individuals.

Everyone is on a mission to sell their story, and sea of information becomes muddy with propaganda claiming to be the truth.

Is there anything inherently wrong with blatant self promotion? Is there really that much of a difference between blatant self promotion and subtle self promotion?

Pardon me for a moment as I break from this reflection on the value of the internet to break into some blatant self promotion.

Quora spin - A critical look at Quora and the world of crowd sourced knowledge.

Quora's stated mission: “We want to connect the people who have knowledge to the people who need it, to bring together people with different perspectives so they can understand each other better, and to empower everyone to share their knowledge for the benefit of the rest of the world.”

Quora's stated mission: “Quora has only one version of each question. It doesn’t have a left wing version, a right wing version, a western version, and an eastern version.”

It sounds noble, but in practice, it just doesn't work.

In The Wrath of Khan (1982), Spock says, “Logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.”
